Let's talk about the concept of luck.
How lucky should you be to have a home run within your portfolio?
I have never been a firm "believer" in luck.
"Lucky to be in the right spot, at the right time with the right persons."
"It's bad luck that I have not spotted that opportunity myself."
As the roman philosopher Seneca put it:
"Luck is when preparation meets opportunity".
I came across this quote last weekend, which summarizes it all.
It would be very unrealistic to state that luck doesn't exist. However, the more you prepare for chance and seize the opportunity when it is right in front of you, the luckier you get.
When you reach out to more and more people, the chances of spotting a new opportunity go up—however, that's not yet it. You also have to seize the opportunity. When you are well prepared to spot a winner, you also need to have the systems in place to capitalize on it.
To grow your innovation project or your innovation portfolio, you must build consistent systems to reach your goals. If you are consistent, you will generate more opportunities.
Although you won't convert all opportunities into success, you'll learn how to maximize your chances.
Generating more revenue, sourcing innovation ideas, and attracting talent are all part of this concept.
Never search for luck; build systems to generate more opportunities and learn how to capture the opportunities.
